I've primed the oil system on my rebuilt motor while its on the stand (using the drill/oil primer method with the intake off). How much time do I have to finish bolting up the motor, getting it into the car and starting for the first time? New daughter (daddy's little girl!!) at home is taking up most of my time so I'm not sure how long before I get the engine back in the car. I'm thinking on the order of weeks before I can turn the key, is that too long?

If you've used moly/assy lube on your bearings you can wait forever and a day. Priming an engine is not necessary when you use an assy lube.

Is there anyone that assembles an engine without assembly lube? Priming is added security and ensures a quicker flow of oil to the bearings.

Without rotation of the parts I think there should be plenty of assembly lube left on things. Enjoy the time with your daughter she will only be little once and the car can wait.
No kids of myown yet but I have a sister that is much younger than I and niece and nephews and I can not believe how much they change SSSSSOOOOO fast.

Yes I have known and read of those who have assembled engines using 30wt oil.

Oh, I much prefer time spent with my daughter than working on the car!! She's the apple of my eye. However My wife and the little one are off visiting her parents in PA for the past week.. and I've got till Wednesday to finish as much as I can. Just got the motor back on the k-member tonight (thats a fun one man job!). Hopefully by Tuesday I can get my brother over to help pop the transmission back on and then its ready to go back in the car...

Thanks for all the responses!

I primed mine with 30wt and she sat for about 3 days before i started it and the oil pressure came right up, just like if i just changed the oil. I also used assembly lube.
