How should I work this? (Upgrade path advice..)
Well.. I'm planning on obtaining a high mileage 95+ obd2 Z28 in the very near future, with plans to go supercharged.
Now... I talked to a local shop that opened fairly recently. Said they would rebuild the engine with low compression pistons, making room for forced induction.
Problem is... if I lower the compression substantially, I'm gonna lose power!
I can't afford to rebuild the engine ($3,500 net cost) AND supercharge it at the same time.. (probably another 3,5-4k) ... It will be several months before I can accumulate this money.
So I'll be running around with a substandard Z28... slower than stock...getting hammered on by GT's!!! I refuse to own a car that gets beaten by anything less than SVT!!
What can I do to counteract the HP deficiency, until the "big day" when I have the money for supercharging? Preferrably in the sub-$500 range so I don't have to bite too much out of my supercharger fund... And I'd rather not buy something that'll be completely useless once I get the s/c... (like reprogramming/wideband dyno tuning)
Would gears do the job? If so.. which ratio sounds best for my purpose?

Even with 8.0 compression, you should still be at least as fast as stock with a performance rebuild on the engine. If not, I'd take my business to a different shop.
