How to replace oil pump spring?

I just got in my Melling 10% HV pump, it came with a "pink" spring installed according to the paper that came with the pump, but I also just received a new "white" GM spring to install. I assume the white spring is the better of the two, and how exactly do I install it?

Remove the bottom plate, punch out the rolled pin, swap spring, re-install pin, re-install plate.

I removed the bottom plate, but don't see where to punch out a pin at. I can see the spring thru a plate with a hex hole on it, but thats about it.

Does anyone have a pic showing where this pin is that I am supposed to punch out?

Perhaps that pump is different, then. My instructions were for a stock type retainer for the spring.

If you bought one of the "select" Melling pumps then you have to use a hex key to remove the cap to replace the spring. Its best if you bolt the oil pump to the block to hold it in place. After you replace the spring make sure you use red locktite on the cap.

Also don't forget to pack the pump with assembly lube and check to see if your pick up clears the windage try in your pan.

So that hex plate screws off then? It is on there so tight that I wasn't sure. I guess I'll have to brace the pump when trying to remove it?

Yup!

Either put that oil pump in a vise or if your motor is on a stand bolt it up and remove the hex plate.
