How rare are hardtops?
I would love to have had t-tops, but it took me 2 months just to find a M6, so I wasn't going to be too picky.
The only 4th gens that are rare really are 96-97 WS6 and SS, pace cars, anniversary editions, COPOs, and the Firehawks. My car is one of 400 or so made with tan leather in 94. It means it minght be worht $2 more than any other 94 Z28.

I think hardtops are the most common. I bougt my car with a hardtop but later converted it to ttops. So wat you need SFCs...if you want a 10 sec timeslip your gonna need something to tighten it up with. If you wantbetter handling you need SFCs. When my car was a hardtop, I put on SFCs and it really does help a lot. When I did the ttop conversion, I didn't notice a change. Dude, go for the looks...get t-tops! If you go to the beach a lot....trust me, you'll love it!

And LT1 Bunny, actually the T-Tops are the most common. Do some looking around. There's a very lopsided difference in the amount of t-top vs. hardtop cars.

Really? I'll have to pay closer attention. I mostly see hardtops here. Actually I made a list of everyone I know with all years camaros, tas, whatever....and it came out to be 50/50. I guess I just see A LOT of hadtops out everyday.

Actually, 96-97 WS6 and SS cars aren't that rare, nor do they command a ridiculously higher price. You want rare?? I believe they made between 3-4K of each both years. You want rare, how about 95-97 Comp T/A's (15X made) or the famed 97 LT4 Firehawk (29 made) or SS (109 made)??

And I drive around the beach quite a bit down here
Terrific. Thanks for the correction. My car had the t-top part cut out and it was a hard top (1994 Z-28)
Guess it was wrecked before I owned it?? Huh

I love my hardtop!!!
The thing i really don't like about the T-tops is that stupid strip down the middle--IMO i think it looks bad. I like the clean hardtop look. Yes the hard-top will be a little less flexy, but subframes equals that out real fast.
Just look at the two and decide........they both have advantages.......you going for that cruiser to pick up chicks in or are you going for the race look?

'96 WS.6 formula hardtop here.
As far as rare, I know as of about 2yrs ago, the original 29 LT4 firehawk number was down to 24 cars remaining as 5 had been wrecked/totaled so who's to say how many are actually left today. I'd love to own one.

I HAVE seen a white hardtop WS6, and with the white wrapping all the way up to the top and dark tint... that thing looked MEAN.
I personally don't like T-Tops because they an unnecessary leaks/squeaks. They are heavier and they are weaker. They are also more prone to wind noise which I HATE. Oh, and they are ugly from inside of the car and out.... which doesn't help.

Having had 3 f-bodies now:
95 hardtop Formula
2000 t-top TA
97 hardtop LT4 Firehawk
I definitely say that the hardtop cars are more rigid. Even with the t-tops in, my 2000 had more flex than the 95 hardtop. And that was comparing the 95 with almost 100K miles, 150+ quater mile passes, lots of autox and 10+ full days of roadcourse events to the brand new 2000 TA with t-tops. Also, my 95 did not have SFCs or a rollcage, and it never had any of the issues that many of the t-top folks complain about when stressing the chasis through lots of quater mile or roadcourse use.
Also, the hardtop cars have two additional structural members on each side compared to the t-tops metal rod locking mechanism, and the hardtops also have the full roof panel. I know the roof panel can make a big difference as my 92 C4 Corvette had a VERY noticeable improvement when I went from a glass targa top to a fiberglass targa top.
One final point, SLP only made the LT4 cars in hardtops for a reason. They (and GM) were worried that a t-top car would not be able to handle the additional HP/TQ of the LT4 and survive through the warranty period without problems. Now for everyone running more HP/TQ than a stock LT1, don't get upset and say the car won't handle. I'm just relaying GM/SLP's view on this, and remember that they have to worry about warranties and durability a lot more than a single owner.
