how to Port out and polish intake.. suggestions?
you need new gaskets so you can mark the port match. you need a die grinder with a 1/4" chuck. and i bought some carbide burrs from mcmastercar.com about 25 bucks and they will remove materail very fast. and use wd-40 and they will not clog up. need to do alot of reading. and you need a kit from standardabrsives.com. about 70 bucks. and sence its your first time you may want to set aside about 60 hours of your time
i will post some pics tonight.
i promise you this if you screw up a set of heads even though you will probably be mad. you will have learned something.
i read alot of info for about 4 months before i tried it and i think i still screwed up.
good luck.
i take a picture of most of the stuff i have on my work table tonight and post it. because im in the prossess right now.

What I'm reading from some of these posts is that if you've got full bolt ons for exhaust and intake, porting the heads and intake manifold together will get some good gains?

some things that can be done to the ports that will hurt HP are- lower floors, remove too much of shortside radius, grind through into water or air (push rod walls).
If you stay off of the seats you will not mess them up. If you narrow the guides, enlarge the bowls, raise the roof, straiten wall between intake ports and make push rod wall pinch wider on the intake and you will be happy with the results. Narrow guide and remove the bump from shortside of exhaust port but do not lower floor or remove metal that would not let the port come strait off of the seat before turning to shortside/floor.up
If you have porting experience you probably know what to do anyway. If you do not have porting experience it is better to remove less than more. You might not get the results of a more experienced porter but these heads are so choked up that most people have good results from minor work and a good valve job.
The best advice would be to get the best flowing valve job (at low/mid lift) you can afford and blend the port like mentioned. If you can't keep from nicking the valve job than get the valve job done after porting and blend together.
I am not the graetest porter but maybe these tips will point you in the right direction. GOOD LUCK.
