How much will be ET improve going from 2.73s to 3.42s?
Re: How much will be ET improve going from 2.73s to 3.42s?
I agree with the others, it's not worth it to switch before you have real mods like a cam and such. Now if you want to do it now so you don't have to later yea, go for it. You will not gain that much if at all. I also lost gained nothing with the 3.73's with the current mods. I thought I could gain .2 at least and it didn't happen. And that was a full step higher. 2.73 to 3.73.
But now i am using nitrous and throwing in a cam soon, and the gears will really start helping.

Yea. I couldn't believe it either. I was trapping lower and running a lower E.T. That was back before I really got into it. I didn't have any equipment to scan it for problems, but as far as I know it was healthy. I honestly believe it was just because it had to shift twice as much and was shifting right before I would cross and ruined my 1/4 times.
my trap speeds though have always been way down. I trap like 99mph with a 13.3 e.t.

Guys I know I am hijacking but just to clarify I have a 93 LT1 with the A4 its the older one and I was wondering about the shift points. I want to go from 2.73 to 3.73 I need to change a gear in the tranny for mine to be accurate. Does my car still shift by speed or by RPM What will happen if I just thro the gears at it and change the speedo gears later?

I just changed from 3.08's to 4.56's. I have yet to go to the track, but I'm thinking I picked up much more the .2 or .3 tenths, heres the key point. I'm running a hugh HR cam, somewhere in the 24x/25x area. Stock motors/cams are matched with the factory gears to provide good performance and gas mileage. Leaving smaller gears in with a larger cam can and will hurt performance.

My Camaro is suppost has an A4 and is suppost to have 3.23s. Im taching around 3g at around 80 mph.....it seems people are taching lower then that at 80 then me....im all confused now
Re: How much will be ET improve going from 2.73s to 3.42s?
I am not sure but it sounds like your torque converter isnt locking up. My 93 A4 actually feels like it shifts twice in 4th gear. One shifts into 4th then the torque converter locks in and feels almost like a 5th gear.
Re: How much will be ET improve going from 2.73s to 3.42s?
I went to the track last weekend and the only thing I changed was the gears. I had 3.23s and changed to 3.73s. Previous best was 13.71@100.90 with DA at about 800 feet or so. This weekend my best was 13.57@101.59 with the DA arond 2000 feet. I'd say that with good weather, those gears will probably drop me a solid 3 tenths.

The only way I would go with something else is if I do heads/cam
