What do you have for gears currently?
the general rule of thumb is 1 second for every 1 you move up;
2.73's to 3.73's ~ 1 second (typ .7-.8)
3.42's to 3.73's ~ 1/2 second (typ 3.-.5)

Since you have a 6sp, i'm pretty sure you have the 3.42's. 1/2 second isn't too bad, i'm thinking 3.73's and a 2800-3000 stall next year, that should put me in 12's. SECKSI!!

I'm sorry i wasn't paying atten when i writing the post, with the 3.42's to 3.73's thats a 1/4 step up, so .2 or .25 pickup theoretically. With the m6, 4.10s would be the tire frying monster.

most people have indicated that 4:11's are a better gear to go with for 6 speeds...really it all depends on how fast you want to go and what you want to do. If you want optimal drag times, make the gears so that when you cross the finish line at your desired MPH, the engine is near its peak HP RPM.

With ET Streets and a 6 speed, look forward to getting a new rear end soon

ET streets/M6/stock rear? Definitely a recipe for 10 bolt destruction. You might want to start socking away for a 12 bolt ASAP.

Your all but garenteed to grenade your rear-end by going either route

DR's, you've a chance... ET Streets, dream on

I destroyed a set of 4.10's with DR's at the track and on the way home that night... They just hook SO good!

I think the most you are going to get is a 1.8 or so short time on the DR's, and some drivers are even pulling close to those on street tires...

The DR's will hook good, yes... But it depends on how hard you plan on launching... if your going to roll it outta the hole and then quickly roll into it, DR's should be fine...

I think any big launchs, not even big, but 3 grandish and your stock 10 bolt is going to start talking to you in a way that you really wish it hadn't... Through your wallet!! hehe

but I have 4.10's, and I completely and utterly love them! I've gone through 2 sets in the past 6 years, and if these blow up, i'll just get a 12 bolt with more 4.10's...

well ive launched with the ET streets 6 times now at about 3500 rpm each time and nothing yet. The rear end seems to be as solid as ever with no whines or noised. I dont know if it helps any but im launching with my cutout open at all times so some of my bottem end torque is gone.

the real advantage of gears comes with a torque converter or in a six speed- when you have bigger cams. getting traction with 3.73s will be a lot easier than 3.23s when you get a high stall

as far as your "rule"
you're nuts. First off going from 1.23s to 2.23s isa FAR larger jump than 3.42 to 4.42 (if there was such a gear?)

its a percent

and second, it depends on the converter, powerband and gears to begin with

and unless you have terrible gearing to begin with, that jump isn't knocking 7/10s off anything

That rear is def. a timebomb with ET streets. Mine didn't make a noise until it blew up.
