How much slower is a convertible Z28 than a regular Z28 ? I found a site that had both on it and it rated the convertible at like half a second slower ... i figured maybe 2/10s

granted they do weigh a little more, but i don't think they're much slower. back when i had my vert, it would outrun almost every hard top around here with similar mods.

I've got a vert, its probably very nominal, if the tops down, you have more weight on the rear tires.. so.. more weight = more traction at the start i guess

I raced a 2001 SS vert @ Sears Point later last year, the LS1 only passed me well past the 1/8th mark.

Thanks guys, that what i figured like 2-3 1/10ths ... The more traction idea , that makes sense, never thought of it that way ... I saw a site that rated both hard and drop top and they was rated at 14.1 or 14 flat i ferget ... and 14.5 ...

Duno if the traction really makes any difference but another way of looking at it is if your windows and top are all down you'd have a lower CG as well!

Whats CG?

Well i have only raced one other Z28...it was an LT1 with T-Tops...that is all i know...i was stock at the time...and i beat it by a car lenght. I am sure the drop top is .1-.2 slower...its an added 100 lbs.

my LS1 z28(99) runs 13.95 at around 101. It has ****ty gears though: 2.73 an A4, and the added weight. I was pissed. And without the lid and K&N it's a 14.0x car! :angry:

I was told they were slower with the top down than up. I wonder if anyone has stats to verify this. I myself dont notice a difference.

CG = Centre of Gravity
The lower it is the better a car will generally handle on turns

~2 tenths, mostly due weight but also more aerodynamic drag at the big end.
