how much to repair this head? Pics. machinests inside...

My engine dropped a valve a while back. The head got damaged pretty good, but Im having a hard time finding cheap cores to send out for porting for my new engine. If I can get this repaired cheap, I may just do that. I guess I should just ask Lloyd, maybe he has someone that could do it.

Anyway, the hole is into the water jacket. It would probably have to be ground out, and welded up. Then that little crack in the valve guide area. I think the crack is very little, and is only where the protrusion is. That area probably gets ported away anyway.

Think a competent machine shop could fix it for <$100?

those cracks are in the valve guides they were going need to be replaced anyway about $150 for both heads. the chamber does not seem to bad a little grinding and maybe some filling and of couse a valvejob as long at the valve seats are not shot and no new margin could be ground

i'd say $400 and then they could be ported they most of the cost is what would have to be done on any used heads about $100 into grinding and filling so yes $100 should square ytou where you were to begin with

Thats cool. Lloyd is installing all new guides, and larger seats anyway. All I need is to have that hole fixed.

Aluminum is easy to weld. Because that is in the combustion area I would want a nice penetrating weld, so both seats would come out, then some grinding and welding. If Lloyd is putting in bigger seats anyways and porting and surfacing, it would only be min weld charge from me at $75 for clean, bead, grind, weld, peen, cool on the plate to keep it straight...
How does the piston look lol.

Josh, I have a set of perfect stock LT1 heads off a 33,000 mile car for $200. I would honestly recommend at this stage (pre-porting) to start with new heads since they are so cheap.

I could mail them directly to Lloyd for you as well.

Thanks, Jason

Lloyd is going to tell you to scrap that head, and for good reason. It's going to require more than welding and milling to get it back to usable. It will definately cost more to repair it than it's worth.

The repair would be cheap, but after talking with Lloyd Im gonna scrap it. It would probably be ok, but when spraying Im gonna be ~650RWHP, and I dont want to take the risk of a repaired head in those conditions.

Jason, I have a set lined up to buy pretty cheap, but Im waiting to find out what casting # they are. What # are yours? When could you send them to Lloyd?

For $200 definatly go with the un-repaired castings.
