Question How much refrigerant to fill A/C?

I emptied my A/C lines on my 97 doing some work and need to refill the entire system. How many cans of refrigerant do I need? Is one brand better than another? Any special refill tips or recommendations?

It says it right on the radiator thing... I think it is 24oz. Did you open the system? like disconnect any lines. If you did you will need to have the system evacuated. you can't just fill it up. In that case I would recommend just taking it to a shop.

Thanks, guys. I later found that it needs 2lbs.

Yes, I opened the system to do a cam swap. Tell me more about the "need to have the system evacuated". I don't understand that. Why can't I just refill the system with some 134 and some special oil?

The system gets moisture in it when opened that can degrade the components....the dryer will prabably take care of it for you(round silver cylinder mounted to fender wall). The oil is in the can with the r134...just fill and go...you should be ok.

If you say so. The system needs to be drawn to a vacuum so it will get the full amount of R134a and ONLY R134a. Moisture in the system can freeze and cause problems. It is just the better way to do it.
