Re: How much power would you need...

It depends on the temperature too. I can leave 100ft burn outs and still be spinning at 80mph in 2nd gear with my Nitto 315s @18psi in 20 degree weather. My car is pretty much stock too, and auto with 2.73s. In 60 degree weather or above the tires hook like nothing else. this question really can't be answered. It depends on too much. That's like asking about wheel stands, getting fire to come out of your tail pipes. It's all too vague.

I am curious because if I slam 2nd the tires bark like hell but they grab and then i'll pull like crazy. 3rd doesn't chirp but it feels very close. But I hear people chirping 3rd and 4th and seeing similar or less numbers then mine. Especially since my numbers aren't totally accurate (Well they are accurate), or up to par since I pulled off at 5450 and it wasn't tune correctly (Very lean up top).

So it just seems weird to me and I think I hit gears pretty damn fast.

And when I mean chirping gears, I mean running through them and banging gears. Not dumping the clutch in any gear. My car will chirp 4th that way too. I don't consider that anything special
Well you also can't compare other peoples tire spin to yours either. What about clutch slippage, thats something to factor in to. If you have a stock clutch you probably aren't going to chirp 4th. I too could chirp 4th when my car was bone stock with just a new stock clutch and LT4 PP. I can't get 4th to chirp in my car now with all my mods, i attribute it to my stock LT1 clutch and my LT4 PP. Does that mean my car has less hp than a car that can chirp 4th no.

I would also agree that its more in your gears. With an A4 mine fish tails in 2nd and its stock.

Yep-I believe my best time was 13.4 at 104 This was running 410's, headers, true duals, cai, never got a chance to run with the cam, i'm sure i would've hit 12's. With traction I could have hit 12's as my 60 ft was 2.4 usually--my best was 2.3 so for every tenth in the 60 ft can lead to 2 tenths in the 1/4. Since your car is not a vert it should run fster plus I had at least 100 extra pounds with stereo crap and tools. I was very surprised how well hte car responded to modes, oh I used a cutout as well.

No offense, but thats all you can get with an auto and front bar removed? Gotta have some more in there. Im getting 1.80 on ET streets with the front swaybar in a 6spd, at very high altitude.

new BFG KDW's...one of the best real street tires you can get. It was at the track, not street, but still.

Just keep your fingers crossed and don't launch it hard. I'm making alot more than 315 at the tires and I haven't broken the 10 bolt yet. Course I've only made one run with drag radials.

Re: How much power would you need...

My car spins at pretty much any speed if I floor it right now, and that is on 315 Nitto DRs. Then agin, I did just put in an open differential to get the car rolling. It didn't move at ALL when I tried to launch on slicks. Detroyed the posi, lol. It made a few good passes on DRs though, best 60' of 1.99.

Re: How much power would you need...

I spin a good amount in 2nd a little in 3rd and usually chirp 4th with 285/35-18 nitto 555 non drag radials. This is when just bangen through the gears and not trying to spin on as much as possible. But like everyone else says, depends on the road conditions, temperature, tires, clutch, suspesion, etc

D James... you ever run it at the track?

I don't think my car chirps 3rd, but it spins a lot through 1st and 2nd but you don't really hear any spinning, I just kind of feel it.

My car chirped 4th with just a catback and a stock clutch on brand new 245/50/16 tires. Then I added a SPEC stage III and some ZR1s with 275/40/17 tires and it still chirped 4th. This is with an LT1 with under 300HP. Me and my buddy werent too sure to we went back and looked. 1st gear there was like 10 feet of rubber, 2nd gear around 5' , 3rd gear was around 2-3' and 4th was like 3-4"s long. So yes it can be done
