How much NOS can a stock LT1 take?
How much NOS can a stock LT1 take?
Hey guys. I am thinking about running some spray this summer in my LT1 (IF my opti swap fixed all my problems and the car is running 100%). What is the largest shot I can run with the mods in my sig. Motor is bone stock, except for RR. Wet or Dry? Dry is easy to install from what I understand, but not as reliable or as safe! The possibility of going with a forged rotating assembly and more spray in the future is there as well. Do I need to change the fuel pump with a small wet shot or not? It is stock, but still running very well.
I also plan on running a window and a wot switch as well. Thanks guys!

Wet definatly. A wet kit will hit harder than a dry. If your on the wild side, you can spray a 150 shot, you'll definatly want to take out some timing, or maybe run some 100 octane gas.
I ran a 100 wet on mine, with some NGK TR6's, and nothing was wrong with the engine when I pulled the heads for a cam install.
100 you can run all day long with good 93 gas, and colder plugs and not have a problem.
In addition to the kit, get a purge kit for a more immediate hit because all the air will be out of the lines, and a bottle warmer to keep pressure around 1000 psi.

With everything tuned properly, the possibilities are endless.
I've seen guys running 200-shots on stock motors and I've seen 175-shots on top of heads/cam motors.
For the common user, I'd stay around a 150-shot max, though.

How much NOS? How bout how much n20? Thats better heeh, no Fast and the furious here
But yea, typically 150 is the max, with 100 shot being a good number. Check out the N20 section. Theres a lot of people doing the same thing as you.

the car is almost 10 years old..you wanna trust a 10 year old pump to keep the engine from grenading?
I wouldnt run a 150 shot WITHout a good pump.
I have run a 150 shot for almost 2 years on a stock LT1 with a good pump,104 unleaded,and pulling 2-4° of timing.

True enough. I am going to change my diff in the next couple of days, you are talking me into doing the pump while I am at it! Will I need to change anything (programming, fuel pressure, etc) with the new pump before I get the spray, OR, is it just plug and play! Thanks.
P.S. Those pumps are not that expensive, are they?

Racetronix has a deal going with plug-n-play fuel pump. around 150 i think.
I swapped pumps before Racetronix had thier setup advertised and i had to do some "fabricating".
No need to change fuel pressure/programming.
The extra volume of fuel is like a mini insurance policy when using nitrous.

[i]After 2 years of nitrous my car still runs 12.3/12.4 n/a,so i'd say it's nothing major. [/B]
NX told me as long as I stay on or below 150 I'll be alright w/o retarding the timing that is on my 96 impala I haven't done it yet nor do I think I'm going to but I personally called them and asked they said it will be alright though
