I'm just being picky on the details
i said they are the way to go

the way to go does not = the same

Is that why the fastest bolt on LT1's are running Longtubes
They also usually have rockers and stalls and tuning and stuff
they usually tune them to rev another 200rpms..

109mph is pretty damn good for bolt ons
no skinnies
no slicks
no 52mm tb
no rockers
no weight reduction

Luis,

This thread is FULL of misinformation.

You WILL pick up horsepower AND torque by removing a restrictive muffler and installing a straight-through bullet, however, your peak torque will be moved up a little higher into the powerband... This means that if you have an auto without a higher-stall converter, it'll feel like you lost torque because the peak torque was moved up higher into the powerband.

If you have a 6-speed, you may have to launch a little higher.

Longtubes benefit ANY LT1, modded or not, to a great extent.

wasnt the fastest bolt-on LT1 running edelbrock shorties? Which are considered the worst shorties out there because of the internal pipe welds?

Get a straight-through like the Borla XR-1 or Dynomax Ultra-Flow.

Yes, the LT1 Tech section has been quite lax since the Advanced Section opened up and most of the tech people went there.

This section has few people left that know what's going on. It appears to have been taken over by those with "internet hearsay intellect," but no real LT1 / mechanical experience.

I emailed Jason about becoming a mod for this section, but so far, no response back as of yet.

Maybe it's because I'm not a "people person."

tell ya what mike-
when you can explain why i lost 4 tenths by taking off my muffler i'll follow your ways
same day, no changes, just lost 4 tenths

its going to keep pushing it up to the point where
a. your not reving that high
b. your average power/tq is less

he already has an aftermarket muffler
another one isn't going to do him much better.

why dont we all just run open long tubes

talkin to combo-
they had long tubes to a catback of some sort on a 396 with a 306 CC
cut out lost them 10hp

you can use your theories, *** dynos and "my brothers best friends sisters boyfriends bothers gay lovers car gained xxxx with xxxx," but the dyno and the timeslips are all that matter to me.

long tubes
catback
no cat
strait through muffler
not enough backpressure on a stock LT1
period

edit:
also
why are AS&M makeing more power than hooker headers in many cases????
