How much HP on a stock 4L60E??
I am about to have my trans rebuilt and was wondering how much HP/Torque I could put on a stock rebuild while still having a long life?? I am also considering using a Level 10 rebuild kit as opposed to the stock. Would I need to make any changes in my PCM for the Level 10 kit??? How would that increase the amount of HP/Torque it can handle?? Thanks in advance.
ill tell you that with my mostly stock 96 A4, it was having trouble handling a 80-90 shot of juice. its either the conv or the tranny. i persoanlly dont think they take that much power. i dont know though, maybe its just my car??
i will tell you that if i was spending the $$ (and i WILL be soon- getting a new tranny/stall) i would go ahead and buy a built race-prepped 4L60E. i have found them anywhere from 1400-1800 complete. i called around for a stock rebuild from shops locally, and the cheapest was like 1500. most said "somwhere b/t 1500-2000. i was like WTF?!?! so where im at, theres no reason to pay all that for a stock rebuild thats really not going to handle any more power.

Stock 4L60E's are junk. They were designed differently every year they were produced. In 97 they finally figured out how to make them last alittle longer, On my 97 I put a converter in it and it wasent 5000 miles later and it was trash. The trannys wont hold much more than stock engine mods. A converter and headers will toast a stock one pretty qucik. If your gonna spend your money on a rebuild, get it done right. And thats kinda a problem with 4l60e's too. Not many people can work on them. If you want a real tranny check out http://www.netgearhead.com, then email Gregg@netgearhead.com and tell him Jess sent you. Hes the coolest guy I know when it comes to this stuff.
If you were smart, you should ditch that tranny and swap in something else. 4L60E's are JUNK. I don't care what anyone says, they won't live in a high hp car. There is no such thing as bulletproof when it comes to these trannys. All that means is that instead of blowing right away, you might get a summer out of it. Swap in a th350 or 400. I'm doing it right now. I have junked 4 4L60's in the last year. I have had them built to all sorts of levels. JUNK! Save yourself some aggrevation and get rid of that thing!
Well, I put a carbed 427 sbc bill mitchell motor in front of my
4L60E. Dyno# 532hp,530TQ at fly. Trans is no good. Took
4 days of driving like wimp to do this damage
