How much hp can improperly gapped plugs cost your engine?

Hey guys,

Just wondering, how much hp can improperly gapped plugs cost your engine and can it this do any damage to your engine? Will this cause the engine to pull any timing?

Thanks,

Ben

It's impossible to know how much power this will cost you but probably not much. A larger gap is know to lead to rough idle and what feels like a miss but not detonation leading to any spark timng retard. I run a tighter gap than stock with no ill effects at all.

What gap are you talking about...

I've only had experiences with the gap being too large, like about .100". On the LT1, it would miss pretty bad even just while cruising. On the LS1, it didn't seem to make that much difference. It was a case of the platinum "puck" on the AC Delco plugs falling off in both instances.

How much power can be lost? I'd say between 0 and all of it.

Why do you ask? Are you saying your plugs are improperly gapped but you don't want to fix them? or are you thinking you're gaining something somewhere?

If so, a better might be question is how much power will be gain running by running an 'improperly' large spark plug gap? Probably none...
