how much hp

hey guys just sold my vette and found my first ever f-body that I had when I was 17 now 5 years later car looks as good as the day i sold it, only problem is that after driving a 12sec c5 for a year i forgot how slow these f-bodies are from the factory. so I purchased the car on monday and tuesday purchased lt4 heads and intake(stock),lt4 hotcam, hooker longtubes and y pipe slp loudmouth, bbk52mm tb getting the car tuned on wed. I know that I did not get anything xtreme but my last f-boody was sick but not always fun to drive. I just would like this car to be like the vette mid to low 12s and very driver friendly. P.S. the car is a 96 ws6 trans am 6 speed with 3.73 also and 81000 miles how much hp should i expect I know that carcraft did an article on this set up and motor made 430hp but I wanted to see what everyone else is getting so please help

The 430 FLYWHEEL HP LT4 conversion testing was done by MORE Performance back in the late 90's. The engine was run on an engine dyno, stripped bare of all accessories, intake and exhaust.... in effect SAE Gross HP, not the SAE Net used to measure the stock engine. In addition, the engine was tuned using a $3,000+ aftermarket ECU setup (which all the articles conveniently forgot to mention), and probably had a few other mods that they failed to talk about. I'd suspect you are looking at 400 flywheelHP, in SAE Net terms.

Where did you find the LT4 heads and intake? The intakes are becoming more difficult to find every day.

a guy local had 2 sets and was hurting for cash so i got everything for 1500.00

I was thinking around 370rwhp. I know that one of our local members at a dyno day we had here in j-ville made 350rwhp with boltons and a hot cam but with stock untouched lt1 heads and intake so maybe its possible

ya that seems on par. If you ditch the hotcam and have the heads cleaned up you could be anywhere from 390-430rwhp depending on how big the cam is and the porting done to the heads.

While not the best choice in power making parts, a hotcam alone could get you into the low 12's if you tried hard enough... so with the heads, even 11's are a possibility.

i know that i could have done better but i wanted the car driver friendly see I own a c5 vette as well with all the boltons that went 12.62 @108 and the best part is it drives like a normal car not to loud and no cam so its really nice and i just wanted the same thing on this T/A all these parts are matched by gm so they are designed to work well together, also my last car was a 96 lt1 formula ws6 with afr heads 190's ported intake gm847 cam and all the boltons with a 6 speed and 4.10 gears and it was not fun to drive every day. and the car had all kind of stupid problems that just made me hate this hobby alltogether so now im just playing it safe and fun

I agree there are several LT1's hitting high 12's on LT4 cams alone.

LT1's can hit 12's easily on bolt-ons alone. There have been several low 12 second hotcam cars, and even a few 11 second hotcam only.

Very true... I could have done it but I wanted to mod the car to fast... my bolt on car went 13.2 @ 104 all day.

There's cams out there that drive better than the hotcam and make more power/torque.
