This is a fairly routine LT1 engine question. I'll move your post to the "LT1 Based Engine Tech" forum.

how much cam?

is going in a street car so id like to get a little of that cam lope at idle but not so much that it effects the drivability

XE503, GM846, CC305 are all good off the shelf mild cams. Those shouldnt bother drivibility too much and give to pretty good power.

The general recommendation for a street cam with stock heads is the CC503.

will any of these cams give me any lope at idle? is the lt4 hot cam too much? how much lift before valve clearance is an issue? im looking to push the limits of drivability i guess.

there are tons of clips on youtube and streetfire, but the hotcam and 503 are going to have the most lope to them for off-the-shelf. the 846 sounds pretty good too tho. stock heads/block ptv clearance is not an issue with any of the cams listed.

cc306, gm847, cc503, lpe 211/219, lpe 219/219, gm846, cc305, LT4 Hot Cam, etc etc etc

imo go with a custom LE cam

he can taylor a cam to your needs and goals, and at $300 shipped for an LE custom cam versus $260+shipping for an off the shelf cam, there is little cost difference
