How much $ to run low 13's?

Helo all i am new to the board.

I might be buying a lt-1 f-body this spring and would like to know what parts are needed to make an lt-1 car run low 13's high 12's all motor. Also a rough guess on how much this would cost. Would 1500-2000 be enough?

Thanks,
Nick

Well, assuming you do all the labor yourself, yes it can be done. One of my friends on the board ran a 13.2 with just intake, headers off road pipe, shifter and exhaust. $2000 is plenty enough money to buy those mods. Figure ~$175 for ithe intake, ~700 for coated headers, ~400 for catback (or 40 for cut out if you're cheap) and you've got over $700 left for various things such as a shifter maybe, slicks, a stall converter if its an automatic, even gears.

So in conclusion, yes it can be done.

If you have an automatic, get a TC w/shift kit, Drag Radials, CAI, Headers and full exhaust should net you mid to high 12's.

Cost around ~1500

If you have a Manual get gears, DR, CAI, headers, full exhaust, and lots of practice.

Cost around ~1200

These are just estimations though.

whatever you do, plan on buying at least a decent set of drag radials...it is very difficult to launch these cars without spinning too much...

as stated the first steps are the same:
intake, headers and full exhaust and dr

second step depends on auto or M6:
auto -
torque converter and tranny cooler (keep the tranny happy), and probably gears (unless you get the performance 3.23 ratio)

M6 -
shifter and shift light so that you aren't missing gears and are consistent with your shifts.

before my gears I ran a terrible et but the mph were a tad over 107. memphis air is good for racing most of the time but our track conditions during testntune suck!!!! with good traction 107mph is good for 12's.

What gears would you recomend for a m6? i know the 6 th gear is a major overdrive on these cars so what would you be turning(rpms) at 70 with 3.73's?

been there to with my old 69 that i had. 4.10's, m21 4 speed, and 255-60-15's meant 55mph 3000rpm and the best sounding drone from a flow that you could imagine. off the subject but that car had a sound that is rivaled by no other, man i miss it.

One word, nitrous , and tires ofcourse.

So for less than $1k, used nitrous setup, low 13s for sure.

My friend ran 12.34 (12.42 to win the GM Hi Tech LT1 shootout) with basically this set up:

Shortys/Y-pipe $350ish
GM 4.10s $175ish
CAI $200
1.6 Roller Rockers $300
Hurst shifter $180
ET Streets $300
Moser 12 Bolt $2000

Now, the Moser was a safety precaution as he likes to launch at 5500 RPMs. Don't bother with the 12 bolt, and ease her out at 2500 and you should see high 12s with some practice all for $1500 new (but do like we do and buy stuff used).
