How much $$$ for 3.73's?

Hey,
I got a stock rear end w/ 2.73's. I wanna get some 3.73's but a little confused. Do I need a new carrier? How much is this (and the gears and install) gonna run me altogether?

You can get 3.73s for a 2 series carrier. The ring is thicker because the 2 series carrier is narrower than the 3 series. The pinions are the same.Thats the cheapest route. However aftermarket gears tend to be noisy but some people have had good experiences.
My 2 series Strange's were noisy so I got a Torsen carrier from SLP like came in the SLP SS cars for 99.00. It's a clutchless posi design good for street use though not the strongest.

My Motive 3 series 3.73's are very quiet except for a little chatter when coming off the gass sometimes.

So it would be 200-250 for the gears, 100 for a 3 series carrier. 80-100 for instal kit, and 250 for labor. About 700.00, or 600.00 if you go with the 2 series gears.

no you dont need a new carrier. just get the series 2 carrier

3.73 series 2 gears $200
installation kit/diff fluid $100
pay someone to put them in $200 (give or take some $$)

total $500

i wish i would have just saved toward a 12 bolt.

I put down over 550 rwhp on my Strange gears (3.73 series 2) and never had a problem with gear whine. I was extremely impressed with the product.

That's the exact route i took... got the S2 carrier gears for around $200, install kit for $90, and got a friend to hook me up for $200 for installation. Make sure you get someone good to install the gears... someone who has done MANY installs cause installing gears are quite tricky. I was fortunate enough to watch him do part of the install.... it's a lot more complicated than i thought (had to keep taking the carrier in and out to properly set the crush sleeve, depth, and lash right). Took him about 4 hours total.
