How many volts show from the coil?
How many volts show from the coil?
My car won't fire but I only see 12 volts from the coil wire when I crank. Shouldn't I see 35,000 volts or something like that? Bad ignition module?
Re: How many volts show from the coil?
You should see 12v power to the coil harness plug, but you can't measure voltage output of the coil to optispark wire with a multimeter-too much voltage.

BTW, your website diagrams of wiring and sensors...HUGE help!

If you were not cranking the engine with the meter on there, then you would not see any high voltage and there would be no risk. Not sure how you were doing it.Most people seem to have a hard time finding a place that can test the ICM, but you might be able to find one in your area.
Re: How many volts show from the coil?
Yeah I'm going to take it to a shop tonight.
I also see voltage coming in from the PCM to the ICM so more than likely its either the NEW MSD coil or the ICM.
Its a $10 voltmeter with a half *** display so I was looking forward to it catching fire and going boom. No such luck. Only saw 12 volts out of the coil wire.
