When its colder the better it runs! i love starting up a cold LT-1 especialy in cold weather 30 or colder and romping out of my driveway. But I will let it run a minuet.
Actually it's not making any more power, it's just more responsive. If you stand on it when it's cold it'll feel torquey as hell down low but it'll fall off on top. The oil is nice and thick, robbing power. None of the clearances in the engine have stabilized yet, your rear end and tranny fluid are extremely thick, etc...... I won't get on mine until the thermostat opens and the oil temperature stabilizes. I know people who have spun bearings by doing exactly what you are doing. Not trying to rag on you at all, I just don't want to see your engine get hurt.

225k and just put in a CC304 cam and 1.6 roller rockers. Burns no oil and ran a best of 13.2 @106 in the 1/4.

Re: How many miles on your LT1?

I had 145,009 on mine when the engine went kaput. Rods 3 and 6 went through the oil pan, and cracked both heads. I had just had to replace the clutch, water pump and hoses, a/c compressor and lines and the opti, within 5000 miles b4 the BLOW. It was quite a shock. Didn't use any oil, changed the oil regularly (mobil 1 0W30 and mobil1 filter) and didn't hot rod it very often. (Tahlequah cops didn't like the sound of my exhaust, and kept an eye on me. The ADA was a buddy of mine, so all 6 bogus tickets were pulled. not one ticket was for speeding) At the same time, one of the guys I went to college with has a Z that has 237,000 miles on it, and he drives the **** out of it, and doesn't take very good care of it. I think the reason here is, he had to take it to Walmart just to have them put radiator fluid in it. Im saying, he knows nothing of how to care for it.

Just trying to prove LT1 durability! colder air makes more power how much i dunno, yeah you're right i always do worrie about spinning one, but during winter i do use a lighter wieght oil. The z gets stored for the cold weather either way it doesnt get ragged on like the caprice. Im sure it attributed to the rear end and tranny failures but the b-bodys do pop trannys like no ones business due to weight and TQ

Re: How many miles on your LT1?

A few miles shy of 174K right now, uses no oil, has a slight tick for about 30 seconds to a minute after start up, then it is quiet. Not sure what it is.

342 miles here.

PS: Old engine had 83K when it crapped, but too much boost and not enough fuel aren't the engine's fault.

Re: How many miles on your LT1?

unless you are using zero weight oil, it takes at least 2 minutes for the oil to fully lube your engine @ atart up. a good alternative to waiting is to buy a pre-lube system. I hope to be able to add one to my car before next winter. we put some on our boat, they are well worth it
