How many miles on your LT1?
How many miles on your LT1?
OK ... I hear these engines are in cop cars and taxi etc.... mine has 139k on it. From what i see these taxi cars get 250k out of these engines in city driving.
Is this true?... If so I have a low millage engine

Re: How many miles on your LT1?
I've got just over 40k on my 97 but.. I'm sure these engines CAN last a long time. These cars are usually driven harder. Our cars also likely have higher compression and that doesn't help either. I'd expect these engines to be capable of hitting 200k w/o problems aslong as they are taken car of. Expect more problems in the line of sensors and electronics along the way then problems with the engine itself. ( READ OPTI

14,873 ORIGIONAL ...
^And the weak valve springs from sitting for 9 years ... ****er ... Its all good though, they're getting replaced this winter when I do 1.6 Pro Mags ...
Their durable engines, and DEFINATLY can take a beating. I feel bad for my car. I NEED to baby it now though cause I'm driving to Philly next weekend and I dont wanna have nothing break on me on the way there ...
But anyways, sorry for getting off topic, bottom line, LT1's love to be abused, there's probably 20 guys on here a year that post that they wound out second and popped it back into first by accident, asking if they hurt anything and the engine turns out to be fine.
As far as mileage goes, Opti's are typical to **** themselves at around 80-100K but then there are some ppl who get 10K miles out of them and others who are 200+K miles and are on the origional opti.
If you maintain it, use quality oil, and don't beat the ****in **** out of it EVERYTIME you get in it, the motor will last... As long as your not an idiot about it and chagne the oil regularly, let it warm up before you start raggin on it, and dont greatly exceed stock power levels, they're reliable and durable. Probably one of the better engines GM has produced, not the best, but better then most.

Re: How many miles on your LT1?
almost to 180k, only replaced opti and tranny was rebuilt. motor is strong, the heat will start to rot some of the plastic, and thats about it. im 19, and i drive the crap out of it. last run was 13.8, pretty much stock, but im running in a couple weeks on the bottle.

"let it warm up before you start raggin on it"
When its colder the better it runs! i love starting up a cold LT-1 especialy in cold weather 30 or colder and romping out of my driveway. But I will let it run a minuet. In my caprice i went through a rear end 4 trannys..too much to list. The car has 180k on it with 100k being police miles and 80k being visciouse teenage abuse! And with just free mods and a set of muffs it keeps up damn well with my stock 94z with 80k(probobly cuz its not broken in yet).
Oh and yes its true the taxi/police cars do get 250k ive seen many iron headed LT-1s with 250k+. Among the B-body crowd you do have low milage!
With both cars the road at the end of my driveway and every other road for about 8 miles is country bashing along with every fri-night being ricer bashing nite. i could go on and on about LT1 abuse but i wont....
