I know a guy with a '93 Z28 who blew a head gasket at 138k, another at 125k. Just wondering what the average is for an LT1 to blow (head gasket, rod, anything).

I just clocked 147k and am starting to get a bit worried. Car runs great but mileage--ouch.

 

On the other side of the LT1 thing the Impalas, cop cars all that guys routinely find crosshatch in the bores at well over 100K, blown motors seem to only come from catastrophic failure and are unpredictable, headgasket failures are rare to say the least. Actually almost all the stock bootm motors that do fail seem to be bearings on modified motors and not necessarily shortly after a cam and even this is rare.

 

most likely the first one was done correctly, thats why he had to do it again.

 

I started a thread about 2 weeks ago about how many miles before head gasket problem ? my Z blew at 131,000 miles and my T/A has 109,000 miles so I was wondering the same thing. There is a guy on here with 262,000 miles with no engine problems and my frinds 95 T/A with 210,000 hard driven miles has had no internal engine problems also. Keep you fingers crossed.

 

Head gaskets don't blow till you're doing something silly. My stockers lasted till 78k miles before I lost one. And that was with 20k miles of blower action.

 

Yeah i'm a retard... i meant incorrectly! the number one cause of a headgasket leaking is overheating the car..... they usually don't blow because of high miles...

 

Put # 2 there as detonation.

If you change your fluids as OEM specs and don’t live in 6,000 rpm range, your head gasket and internals should last forever.

 

You don't know Corey very well, do you?

 

117k here, heads/cam 398hp, rev the hell out of it and it still runs great. But my rearend and clutch are another story all together...
