How many of you guys had your starter die? What did it do when it went? What did you replace it with?

Mine gave up at about 85k miles. It began to crank slowly and lasted about four more starts from the first warning. I had it rebuilt by a very good auto electric shop in my town. They said the the contacts in these starters are prone to corroding and failing. New bushings, starter drive, solenoid, and brushes, all done for $120.00 Canadian. Works great.

Mine lasted over 140k. Lately, it would sometimes click instead of start when car was hot. I would have to keep clicking it for a few minutes to get it to start. I just replaced it with the LT4 starter today.

mine died like a month ago at 71K miles. well was dying anyway. It was suffering from heat soak, it would turn over very very slowly when the engine warmed up. put in an AC delco stocker due to the extended warranty i have on the car. but otherwise I'd put in the LT4 starter as i hear its stronger and smaller.

Cool

Heat soak is what kills these starters, especially with headers... If you have long tubes, your asking for it soon. Buy a starter heat shield. I got the wrap one from Summit for about $25 i think. It's been on there for 2 years and i'm still on my origional starter with Long tubes

hey shocktrp where did you get your LT4 starter at and how much. I am probably about to get a LT4 starter for my car and was wondering where you got it at. I think am going to call jason cromer up and see how much I can get one off him from.

Went through 2 stock style starters. That's what headers will do for yah Picked up a LT4 starter just a few months ago. Been working great so far, but I should probably put that heatshielding on. Cromer carries the LT4 starter for pretty cheap. Around $130 I believe.
