how to make heater hotter
Re: how to make heater hotter
You have to bleed the coolant system completly for the heater to work properly. If not, air bubbles will stay in the heater hoses (mainly the hose that runs right in front of the alternator).

Now, i have no heat and a service light.
Also, is it normal for the temp to fluctuate in these cars? When im driving around I sit at around 185 degrees but when i sit in traffic it jumps up above the half way point and then slowly moves back down to 185 (1/4 level).
Any ideas?

If you had your low coolant light come on and now you dont have heat. I'd say air is in your system.

Turn on your W/P. You will be able to see the flow right below your radiator fill opening if the wheel on the w/p is rotating. if not w/p is running but blade isnt turning.
Hoping that isnt what is going on:
Fill radiator till fluid reaches brim of filler. Replace cap. (motor still running)
Wait till the thermostat's opening temprature is surpassed. Open your heater inlet hose bleeder screw, aim it away from your alternator wait till consistant flow is escaping from hole. Close valve.
Now that you know no air is in your system. How's that temprature?

WRONG.
I have a 160* thermo and fans programmed to come on at 90/95c. I get HOT heater air. Motor just turned 130K.
All i've done is flushed the heater core, block, radiator. Normal maintenance.

You have really hot air comming out?? Most camaro's i have ridden in with 160's never really get HOT air, yes it gets warmer, but not hot. What does your engine temp run in Farenhiet? and where do you live? I've flushed everything also....mine doesn't get all that hot, maybe it's just my heatercore.

Mine blows hot as hell. I always put a jacket on, crank the heater up and roll the windows down at night. Feels like 70 degree weather...ahhh...I love Texas winters.
Re: how to make heater hotter
i went ahead and bled out the system. i got it to the point where a steady stream was coming out of the bleed screws. I figured this meant all the air was out of the system. The air in my car was still not showing much heat. I also removed the cap on the radiator barely and fluid was trying to spit out. Does this mean that there may be air still in the system? i also replaced the thermostat. didnt help.
I WANT HEAT!!! haha
I WANT HEAT!!! haha

160* stat and real hot air, even when needle is all the way down when I start the car up, after about 4mins I feel warm air, then needle rises a bit and then its hot air, may its cuz I always used straight water in the car, but i recently put in coolant cuz I'm driving this winter when its sunny for fun since hockey season didn't come this year LOL
PS. when bleeding, if you see steam keep bleeding until you see coolant comming out, I find the best way to bleed is to get the car up to temp and turn it off so the water pump isn't running, give it abou 1 min for the pressure to build up in the coolant system and then start opening up the screws, then the h20 pump is not running and the engine gets hotter when you shut the car off for the enxt 2-3 mins or so before she start cooling down cuz its all still hot but the coolant is not flowing.
