How luch more would longtubes and x-pipe give me?

Ive got a 383 with the works minus a good exhaust. I knew my exhaust was hurting me so last night I unbolted the cat-back and ran open from the y-pipe. My times drop a 1/2 second on avg and I gained about 5-6 mph. I'm currently running a 13.2-13.3 with a 2.4-2.5 60' with a stock 10 bolt, posi on the way out and a mail order tune. Even with all of this against me how much could I look forward to gaining with the above mentioned exhaust change.

a HALF second! from just unbolting the exhaust!!

what kind is it? stock???

on a 383 i would say true duals would probably pick up 10hp peak, and probably similar all the way trough the rpm band. maybe a little less gains in torque down low.

It's been said that until you are over 750 hp that long tubes aren't as good as a good midlength or shorty header. You lose low end and the midrange is not much different.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

it's the primary diameter that really effects the low end torque. The longer piping on a 4 to 1 header actually helps the low end!

longer primaries resonate at lower rpms..LTs defintaley make more low rpm power

you're only pushing 13.2??? With a 383? Is their something wrong with your car? I have a regular non-stroker and I'm pushing low 12s.... Just curious as to what building that stroker is actually doing for ya.

Exhaust would be nice. But I bet you would pick up more with a set of ET streets. 2.4-2.5. Spinning looks cool. But its really not. Theres no reason to put more power to it if you can't hook.

this is completely false. mids have a slight upper hand on long tubes, but only AFTER ~6500 RPM's. Even in that case is only a few hp. long tubes make the most power across the board. this has been proven again and again.

Re: How luch more would longtubes and x-pipe give me?

Well like I said I have a stock 10-bolt with 150,000 miles on it and a posi that is on its way out the door. I do have slicks but if I do the math; 1 pair of slicks + 1 stock 10 bolt + 1 street twin clutch= either me stalling at the line or bye bye 10 bolt. And I dont have enough money for the 9 inch yet. Im not one of those guys who likes to spin at the track I just dont have choice in the matter if I dont want my car sitting in the driveway collecting dust again

Just my .02, but I wouldn't do a thing until you got your rear end and suspension squared away and are able to put your power to the street/track...Really doesn't matter what headers you get if you can't harness the power now...
