How loud should a Comp Pro Magnum valvetrain be?
How loud should a Comp Pro Magnum valvetrain be?
I've had a small problem with burning oil... one of the possibilities I've read about is rocker arms not being adjusted properly. I've got self-aligning 1.6 Comp Pro Magnum rocker arms, and just this evening when I had my hood open in the garage I noticed there's a difference in tone between the driver and passenger side... the passenger side seems a little more clanky.
I know that these rocker arms are louder than a stock valvetrain, but I've never heard another LT1 that has the Pro Magnums to compare my engine to. Anybody have sound clips (or better yet, live in the Chicago burbs?
)

I live in Lockport but as of now, the one T/A I have comp roller's on is down. I can say they are louder and are noticeable with the hood open or parked next to a building with your window down. Both sides should sound the same though.

I just did a search and found this thread and thought I would bring it back up to the top.
I just installed some Comp Pro Mangum 1.6 rocker arms myself and am wondering how loud they should be. I didn't think they would be this loud. Also what does everyone set the preload to on stock lifters? I did 1/4 turn past zero lash.

It can't hurt to readjust them as long as you follow the detailed procedures that you can find on various sites, like shoebox's site for instance.
It's worth a try. It's free.

Trax, rocker adjustment won't have anything to do with oil consumption unless it is so tight as to be deflecting the valve seals. If that was the case, it would probably be running terribly anyway.

Mine are kinda loud, but the blower pretty much drowns them out.
Seriously though, if you're seeing blue exhaust, it's more likely to be the valve seals than the rocker arms.
