How loud are roller tiped rockers supposed to be??
I just got my car back with 1.6 Roller Tiped rockers (not full RR) and my cc305 cam. I haven't gotten the car tunned yet for the cam but it dosen't seem very fast, The tires don't even burn when I floor it (like they did before cam and rockers). I'm thinking that the valve aren't adjusted right and this could be the main cause of my problem. My question is, How loud are they supposed to be? I know they are supposed to be louder but, these sound as loud as stock rockers do when they are loose, I can here them out side the car with the hood down......
The noise you hear is either out of adjustment or not pumped up yet.
You have to give the lifters time to pump up. You also want to be sure to preload them correctly. when the ex valve is just opening, adjust the Int valve by loosening the nut until the push rod spins freely. then tighten the nut until you feel drag on the push rod. then tighten the nut 1/2 turn more.
Then adjust the ex valve when the int valve is is just closing. Use the same method as you did for the intake valve. Do all the others the same way.

My full roller Comp Pro Magnums are "clicky". Even with the LT4 valve covers, I can tell they are there.
If you are low on power, you may have your preload too tight. Loosening them will not make the rockers quieter, however.

My adjustment method was doing it while she was running; tighten it until it stops chattering, and about a 1/2 turn more. I too have the LT4 composite covers, and I took one off (for another reason) and had the car running, and had others comment how quiet my rockers were, even with the valve cover off.

I don't believe mine have a preload adjustment, they look just like the stock rockers but with roller tips and have a 1.6 ratio to them....

When you go to zero lash and then add 1/2 turn or whatever, the 1/2 turn = preload. It's not something on the rocker.

Well, kinda chiming in a bit late but... I have Crane Gold Race RR and they are a bit clicky but definatly not near as loud as what you are describing. If yours are as loud as you are making them sound then I'd suggest you get under there and check around. Check the valvetrain geometry, maybe your rocker is hitting the stud (maybe too short pushrod <I had that problem>) worst case, or maybe just encountering interferance with the valvecover better case. Either will make it much louder than it should be.
Anyway, if it is that loud then your knock sensor is probably going nuts, and thus a significant loss of power as you describe (probably pulling max timing allowed by the PCM due to significant "knock" heard).
Good luck.

Mine were really noisey after 1.6RRs. I heard that RRs were more noisey. That's one reason Lt4s have less sensitive KMs because they have RRs.
If, however, you are hearing loud knock when the hood is down or when you are inside the car, I'd check for adjustment or lifter needing some pump up.JMHO
