How to Identify an SS hood as OEM?
I would like to know how can you identify it as OEM or Fiberglass... its not easy to determine if its one or the other unless you break it... maybe the finish or the prep on it??? LMK
Thanks
Thanks
I know at least on 98 and later super sports the OEM hood is made of fiberglass, it's really hard to get those kind of bends on a steel hood. As for telling if it's original or not you'd have to go by the quality of the hood probably.
I didn't know any of the oem SS hoods were ever made from fiberglass. My oem hood is made from a hard phenolic type material.
OEM hoods had to pass crash safety design requirements. Hence, they are designed to fold and break opon head on impact. They have creases on the underside to enable easy breaking of the hood
I haven't see such design features on most aftermarket hoods for other vehicles. I'll admit I haven't seen aftermarket Camaro SS hoods.
Also, there are manufacturer logo and date castings in the molding that would help identify who made it.
