How hard is it to do this?

A guy I know just killed his Firebird. It spun 2 bearings and cut a gash in the cylinder wall deep enough to where it cant be bored over.My question for yall is was this gradual or could it all happen at once.He complained of lack of power for as long as he has owned it, but I thought it was just him.And he wont tell me what he was doing when it blew.

Oh, it can most definately happen all at once. Why do you think there are so many people with 383's?
