how hard to change springs/shocks?

how hard to change springs/shocks?

is it something an ametuer should take on?

Rear springs/shocks are a pretty easy job.
Front ones require a spring compressor, can be done at home but I took mine to a local shop and had them put my spring/shock assemblies together and then I reinstalled them. Lots of spring pressure in those assemblies and if they get away from you they can cause some serious damage.

You can get more ideas about this with a search. The front is not a job for an amateur unless you remove the unit and have the spring/shock swapped out at a shop like revtime said.
