How hard to change plug wires on lt1?
How hard to change plug wires on lt1?
I'm about to start tonite, just wanted to know of any pointers before starrting to replace the plug wires on my stock lt1 engine! Thanks guys!
Take your time, by gods sake do it when you have plenty of lite lol.
drivers side is a breaze do it first.
then passanger side, undo your belt, remove the belt tensioner and also remove the altenator, if your doing plugs too you have to remove the dust shield and starter, well at least i did.
Most important thing is too make sure your new wires stay away from the pulleys, good luck and take your time.

i JUST finished replacing wire #4...it's RIGHT under one of the header pipes.
took me 3 hours. if u want things to go REALLY easy, take off your alternator AND your compressor...
but, it can be done with just your alternator off...if u've got no freon (like me) then take both off, you'll get done much faster.
and please, for the love of God, make sure that you tie them securely!!!!! dont let them be close to any hot/moving parts.

The plugs can be done without taken anything off, but make sure you have your fair share of extensions. Have fun tonight.

I have timed myself, 47 minutes. But I did have to do wires 3 times that week. (the 47 minute one was the last one so I got plenty of practice.) Take the alternator off and use a bent coathanger to get wires routed where you need to and then get them into the loom on the passenger side. youll wee what I mean.
First time I did it, it took me 2 days.
I did one side of the motor and then passed out and got up and did the other side.
First time is really hard.
Now with LTs and no AC or AIR I can change plugs in 20 minutes and I imagine I could change my wires in about the same time.
