Question How hard to change pads and rotors???

Just wondering b/c I took my car to Midas today to see about getting some new pads and rotors. Well I wanted their ceramic pads which are made by Ravin (never heard of them) and regualr rotors. Well the front pads were going to run $135.99 and the back were $145.99. Then the rotors for the front were $79.99 and rear were $74.99. Do these prices sound high?? I knew it was going to cost a little but not that much. I figure that I will buy rotors and greenstuff pads for a lot cheaper but I need to know how hard it is to install them. They were going charge $100 to do it. Thanks

Are rotors for Fbody's really that much? Front rotors for my Blazer were only 30$ or so for both. I'd look elsewhere for rotors/pads and then have a shop install the parts you buy. Unless pads and rotors really are this expensive for fbods.

Do it yourself!!!!!!!! It is so easy. First off, when you take off your wheel, take off the caliper(two hex-bolts from the back) all you have to do is pull off the rotor. As for the pads, pop the old ones out(make sure you remember which side is which, not a biggie) and compress the caliper with a c-clamp(I use a 6 inch). Pop the new pads in and put it back together using the new rotors. Im not sure about the prices of the rotors but shop around and you will find the best price. As for the pads, if I remember correctly, they are about $50 for the front and $80 for the back for the carbon friction metalic pads. Good luck. If you need any help with the install, email me or ask here. Again, good luck.

haha, I was just about to replace my front rotors this week as well! Mine are slighly warped. At LS1.com, they swear by the cheap lifetime warranty rotors at autozone. (I have no autozone up here) As for the install it is easy. Been there done that before, and was no big deal. One quick question though.

BRANDO - Any idea what size that Hex was again?

im going to take a guess at 8mm??? maybe 6?? i dont rember it being big, but it takes a half hour for me to do the backs, i never did my fronts, i put on the bosch lifetime pads that costed like 35-40 dollars from murrays i think, it was a joke.

Rotors are about $29 each last I checked, get yourself a big C clamp and the job is easy to do by yourself. You will also need an allen head for your socket, I forget the size offhand, 3/8? Or Metric? I'm sure Shoebox or someone would remember.

I remember doing the back rotors, and the bolts you guys are talking about are 15mm,just two of them. One is toward the top and the other is toward the bottom.

I dont think the fronts are the same size. I tried a metric set, and none fit. The place I got the metric ones from, the guy swore they were going to be a metric size hex. Go fig, and with my luck, they were not

Some might say I got ripped, but I got my rotors at Napa (they are Raybestos made) and they are drilled and slotted. Paid 149.99 ea for the fronts. I was willing to pay the extra cause I like the way they look. With new pads, seem to stop fairly better too.

$150 U.S. Each. YIKES! I was looking at a set for the fronts on ebay for like $80. Again, slotted and drilled.
