Question How good is xe 230/236

I am on a tight buget and i am not sure what to do. SHould i get a hotcam kit or save up an extra 200 for the comp cams xe 230/236 kit? I was originally going to go with a hotcam kit but it seems to have mixed results. with the xe i have consistantly seen over 350 rwhp? I need some advice

The HotCam is just an itty bitty baby cam compared to the XE 230/236.

The XE 230/236 is a fairly healthy cam for a mild 350. With supporting mods (full length headers, heads) there have been people putting down ~400rwhp which is very respectable. If you can live with it, it'll should make plenty more power than the LT4 Hot Cam. If you're aren't looking for a cam this large don't forget about the "smaller" XE grings.

i have the 230/236 and love it! it sounds great and runs ok on stock heads. but let me tell you from experience, if you are going to have a decent set of ported heads, run the 230/236 other wise you will be dissapointed. if you are keeping the stock heads, maybe you should look at the 224/230 or even the cc305 for a camshaft. i only have about 2k miles on this cam with stock heads and larger valves and i am about ready to rip off these heads and bolt on a ported set and make some real power! i think the answer is in the heads when running this cam

im running the 230 236 xe it rocks
its mild enough to be an everyday driver wild enough to make to make the neighbors mad and almost every night i go out to the local cruz spot high school kids and give me the thumbs up and the "your car sounds awsome dude" it will sound sweet when you get it programmed mine didn't sound to bad berfor i programmed it but it feally is nice now
and with the a4 and 2500 stall the power curve is nearly perfect
had good lopey sound little surge around 1800 or so but smoothes out and pulles hard right off the line

and ive disappointed a modded lightning, vette, little turbo riceres that have been eating our v8s out here

the only advice is go ahead and port&polish the heads headers whatever it takes to allow that cam to breath

why not spend $75 extra and get a kit from combo?
Has everything the hotcam kit has, only your choice of almost any cam andsome upgrades i believe!

TWELLS- do you have any time slips before and after your cam install? Any dyno numbers? Im looking at the same cam for my car with stock heads or possibly the 224/230.

I have the nessasary items to support such a cam alreafy except my heads have not been ported.

Would realy like to see a 30 RWHP increase installing a cam.

I love my 230/236, drives great and lays down some good power. I'm running it on stock heads and stock rockers right now and I know that it has much greater potential with heads.

Doesn't anybody need to be concerned regarding passing emissions with this cam?

THose numbers are the duration at .050. Look for the comp cams exteme energy hydrualic cam, with a intake duration of 230 and exhaust duration of 236 @ .050
