How Good Are These Ported Heads?
I have a cc306 cam and i am looking to purchase some ported heads. I found some and thier valves are 2.00 and it has a 1.50 exhaust. I don't know the stock values for the heads, so i have no clue how much I am actually gaining. I know i have seen them ported bigger than this, but I wanted to get a little feedback and see what everyone thought. Thanks.
The stock LT1 head is so choked up that pretty much any porting by anyone with a porting "clue" will offer pretty good gains. The larger valves are a bonus as well but it would be worth getting them flowed and checked out by a shop so that you know what you are getting. Sometimes heads are purchased that end up needing guides, valvejob, springs etc, and the portwork might not be all that it is supposed to be. If any or all of these things I mentioned need replacing you can sink lots of extra $ in "bargain" heads and end up with expensive heads.
As far as if they are wellported and in working order you will be happy with the results but make sure that you take them to a reputable shop and have them flowed and inspected BEFORE you buy them. Most shops can do this for a small fee and if it ends up costing ya $50 or so to find out that you are getting junk then that is $50 well spent and if they turn out to be killer heads at a good price that is worth another $50 as well.
