how good are the madz28's chips

i am considering getting a chip from madz28, but was needing to know how much will that help me: here is the rundown on the engine

lt1 crate w/ 400hp/400tq
compression ratio of 11.5:1
cai
vortech intake elbow
pacesetter lt headers*straightpiped dumped at axle*
m6

all opinions of these chips would be greatly appreciated, what all could i expect from a chip...better acceleration, mpg, hp, tq...

just how good would this be for my car

It isn't a chip, it's just your stock PCM tuned. They offer a lot. Just go to the site and see what Ion can do.

Well if he has a 93 then it would be a chip. It would go in place of your stock unit. Even on a stock motor (which yours is not) most people see at least 15hp from a tune. Your cam specs and all the details would help out alot more.

If at all possible get your car dyno tuned rather than mail order. Not to insult any tuner on this board, but mail order tuning is nothing more than a crap shoot. Every engine reacts differently to tuning. So to get the best power out of your setup you should get the car tuned on the rollers with a wide band.

A mail tune is great place to start since some people don't have dyno's near them or have to drive a couple of hours to them.

BTW Ion has great service and very fast at getting your PCM back.
make sure you tell him cam specs, head flow #s and any other mods.

after reading whats been posted, yes dyno tuning is the best way to go, but also the most expensive, madz28 tuned my heads/cam car and did an excellent job. just make sure to include all the specs on cam, bolt on mods, converter, gear size, injector, etc... good luck its a great tune for the $$, my car ran like a dream afterwards..

Quick question...if Ion sends an update, what's needed to update my OBD-1 PCM in my '97? I know I need the cable from AKM and a laptop, but what software does it? (Yes I have lots of reading to do)

I believe that Ion and Bryan provide you with any software (flash program) that you need to upload a tune to your PCM.

If your interested in dabbling in a bit of tuning as well, Tunercat includes WinFlash for uploading tunes. And TTS Datamaster seems to be what most people use for scanning/datalogging.

I'm about to go OBDI as well, so I've been spending some time researching this - yes there's lots out there to read on this subject.

Re: how good are the madz28's chips

I have an OBD1 conversion from MADZ28 and we were only able to pull 7hp more out of the car on a dyno tune than Ion's baseline. I realize all engines are different, but mine is far from common and to hit it that close is amazing to me.

Re: how good are the madz28's chips

I have an OBD1 conversion for my 97 SS and Ion did a great job. His service was great and I would recommend him to anyone. A dyno tune is the best. But it is not always available to some people like myself and it is expensive. Ion gives you a lot for the money.

I always hear about getting tuned on a dyno "with a wide band." What does that mean?

A dyno tune around here will cost me $300, I know I'll take my business to Ion whenever I have my car insurance paid...
