How to go 12.50's in LT1 M6 car?

My buddy has this loaded 96 Z that he wants to run in the 12.50's with bolt-ons. He already has 1.6 rr's and a 3.73 gear. He doesn't want headers for some reason so lets try to stay away from that.

Thanks for your help...

Cold Air Intake + Catback exhaust + 100shot nitrous + Drag Radials should give him the times that he is looking for.

Thanks but I think hes trying to stay away from spray. He's trying to run down this local Mustang thats all race car but runs 12.5's... its hilarious it has a cage and dual 3" exhaust and a big lumpy cam but its a brick Anyhow he wants to keep it on motor so theres a level playing field. He wants to tell the guy he got beat bya new car with EFI, A/C, leather, and a nice sound system. The guy witht he Mustangs a total hillbilly

Then your friend is going to have to do heads/cam. But heads/cam without headers is like NASCAR using restrictor plates, you won't come nearly close to your heads/cam combos potential without the headers.

Sounds like your friend doesn't want a mid 12 car. No headers? No n2o? It's gonna be a pain to do. Does bolt on mean cam to you and your buddy? I know try a supercharger, it's bolt on and he'll more than likely hit 12's.

Well we have a ZZ3 cam we may throw int here. My buddy is a master mechanic but he's never really been into F-cars until recently and he doesn't read much or have a computer

Anyhow his reasoning against headers is engine compartment heat and he doesn't want to spend $ on thermal coating cause he's a cheap azz.

Keep 'em coming

HAHAHA engine heat...well tell your master mechanic buddy that ceramic coated headers will actually reduce underhood temps because it holds the heat in the header instead of letting it off. Why do u think you can touch coated header10 minutes after you shut the car off but you cant touch a manifold an hour after?

Sorry man, but if your friend is a master mechanic and he doesn't get what it will take to the mid 12's then we can't help you. Tell him to get some used coated headers. Shoot I'll be selling my coated BBK's next week for 250.00. There are other ways to get things if he is a cheap ***. But to start out I'd go with catback, cai,1.6 rockers, and all of the free mods. Oh, and ET Streets. Hopefully his rear end will stay together. That should be high to mid 13's easy.

He was thinking 4.10 gears, power programmer, CAI, ZZ3 cam, dual exhaust w/bullets and a ported intake. Sorry he seems like a retard but hes a good guy really despite his tight ***. Anyhow thanks for the help.

Brent is one of the moderators on this board, and that is what took him and his SS to get to 12.5sec in the 1/4 mile. You will at least have an idea. Good luck on the project.

He'll pay 300+ for a programer but he won't buy good headers? I'm not calling him a tard but some things don't make any sense. 4.10's? That's prety steep and I hope he doesn't plan on daily driving this thing on the street. He's also going dauls with bullets. That's not cheap either, tell him to get a cut out and headers. The dauls aren't going to do much if you're restricted up top like the manifolds. Again don't forget the free mods.

Its nice that you are trying to help this guy, but you don't know what you are talking about yourself. This guy trying to modify his car obviously has no idea what he is doing. He isn't going to go anywhere without headers as they are a huge restriction on the lt1.

They might not call him a tard...but I am...tell him to get the damn headers. That's stupid that he is willing to pay a lot of cash for all that other stuff but not headers.

What are you talking about? I'm not putting the guy down or his friend and how do I not know what I'm talking about? Is there anything that I said that was wrong? If I did then let me KNow because I admit I don't know everything about these cars but I know enough and I'm still learning. Then you just agree with what I'm saying! At least someone agrees with me.

4.10 gears are a very popular choice for a 6spd car and they are perfect for a street car.
