Angry How to get the plug out of head for Jet Fan switch install???

I just got my jet fan switch the other day and now that I have found the plug on the passenger side head I cant find anything to get it off with. It is a 5/16" square hole. How did anyone with this mod do this?? I need some ideas here because I'm running out fast. Thanks.

Thumbs up

I agree with chesee48, sell it and get a SLP fan switch or find a used HPP3 on the board. I bought a Jet Fan switch and searched all over the internet and found alot of helpful information, the problem is if you take that passengerside plug, coolant will leak out all over the place. If you decide to try to install the Jet Fan switch I would recommend you should do it when you change the coolant in your car. Hope that helps. Goodluck

You need an 8 mm drain plug socket to remove the plug in the head. Mine is K-D tools 3322-0. A breaker bar and a cheater handle will make it easier. The Jet switch works well.

An alternate method is to splice a brass "T" into one of the heater hoses and put the sensor there. You probably will have to supply a ground wire for the body of the sensor, since it will not be grounding to the block.

I went to the Chevy dealer, showed them the switch and the instructions, asked them what they would charge to install it, they said 1/2 hour labor ($30), I said "Done!". Best $30 I ever spent and it really wasn't too hard for the tech to stand under the car with the right tool to get to it.
It has worked great for me ever since. I wanted to have something that worked automatically and consistantly, and it does.
Now Jet Chips are a different matter, don't get me started

It says in the instructions to use a piece of 5/16 bar stock. Even with that you must be careful. I went to do mine and really screwed up. I used a piece of 5/16th square rod that had rounded corners and ended up rounding out the center of the pipe plug. Because i didnt use the correct SQUARE bar stock ,It cost me more than it shoul have. To mak a long story short, I ened up having to take off my heads to fix the threads on the passenger side head that i screwed up. Dont be afraid to do this mod though, Just make sure you do it right. At 149,900mi ,I figured it would be a good idea to go ahead and freshen up the top end gaskets. The fan switch works like a charm though. If you want save yourself some trouble, take it to a dealership and let them do it, if they'll do it for cheap. At least if they screw something up they'll have tio fix it. Hope this was helpful. Good luc and happy motoring.

Someone earlier in the thread posted that it is a 8mm drain plug socket that I need. Well, I did a search and a company called "V8 tools" offers a four piece set of 1/2in drive square drain plug sockets, including the 8mm piece. I want to do this right so I'm gonna cough up the $13 for this set and get the right part. I'm posting this so that others who do a search on this or are having the same problem will know there is a way to do it right. Just go to google.com, do a search for "8mm drain plug socket", and look for the site called "v8 tools online". Thanks for all the advice, once again I got through another F-Body problem with the help of you guys.
