how to get dipstick tube back in with LTs?
True. I just cut off a couple of inches to make it easier to reinstall.
Lost tells me I have committed a grievous error.
I have been running the car off and on today and no problems yet.
It may not be till WOT that I will have a problem but I hope not.

Yes... I still haven't gotten my dipstick all the way in
And I have cut my tube with out any problems...but why not trim the dipstick itself... sounds like a fix to us who have cut their tubes, just to be on the safe side.
Oh yeah and I did grind the paint off with a wire wheel and lubed it up, but still didn't get it in... BTW I put in Dynatech LTs... with suck if you have the optional oil cooler, I had to buy a remote oil filter unit too

Also if you have splayed 4-bolt mains like me the dipstick was hitting the side of one of them. I had to take the pan off anyway to massage it for rod clearance and noticed it ran right into the side of the main cap, I just bent it a little and no more problem. As far as hitting rods or crank balancer the tube would have to be really bent up to one side or the other to do that.
I also put in Dynatech's and I just went out and bought a Lokar dipstick and it works great. Also, I don't think any longtubes will work with a factory oil cooler due to ground clearance, but I could be wrong.

Nope. He is talking about, I assume, cutting what is inside the pan. there is a stop that prevents the tube from going in too far. As long as the stop is against the block, the dipstick itself will be in the same place and give the same reading.

I don't mean to suggest that the windage tray is moving.. obviously it does not.. it's just a tray designed to keep the oil from sloushing around to much durning cornering to my understanding. I'm just saying that the dipstick may be close enough to the windage tray that without the tube surrounding it the stick itself may butt up against the tray as you put it in and you may bend it in this fashion. That was just a guess though.. I haven't had the pan off this car so I can't really visualize where the tube is in relation to the internals. It may be that the crank whacks it..
All I'm saying is that numerous people here have had the end of their dipstick removed graciously by something inside the pan. I think it's pretty easy to put back in with some sanding/grinding and a little wd 40 and see no need to bother with cutting it.
I did a search also BTW and I couldn't find any of the posts either. Maybe they're discarded after a while or something but I remember this being somewhat of a big deal several months back
I dunno, good luck with it.
