How to get to the CAI filter from below?
How to get to the CAI filter from below?
I was thinking about cleaning the filters of my SLP CAI and have read that it's easier to get to them from the bottom of the car. I climbed under while changing the fuel filter and didn't see any way to easily get to the filters. Unless I take of half of the nose it looks like I'll have to go through the top. How is it done?

Its a bit of a pain, good luck!
I assume the SLP filters are in the same place as the K&N one - the area just below where the stock filter is. You can remove just the triangular piece of the underbody there, about half a dozen screws. Pretty simple to do.

I saw a plastic panel, but It looked like I'd be taking of the bottom of the whole fron end. Am I looking at the right panel? If so, I guess I'll just take it off. The filters have been on for around 1500 miles now and probably need cleaned before being put away for winter.

You can also take off the driver side inner wheel well. It's like 6-8 screws, gotta jack it up and take off the front wheel too, the plastic comes out and the filter is right there. I just discovered this while I was pulling and painting my inner fender wells and figured since it was so easy I might as well pull the filter and clean it too. Looks awesome with the wells painted nice and shiny black.
They are a pain to take off and you get more air up there with them off.
Mine have been gone for years.
It takes a bit of wrenching on all those bolts but if you get up under the car its just time consuming more than anything.

"work smarter, not harder"
Ive had mine removed and never had a problem with water, debris, etc. getting up there.

You need to remove the air dam or at least lower it on the driver's side then you can remove the splash panel. To make future filter cleanings easy, you can make a removeable access panel and attach it to the bottom of the splash panel. That's what I did and filter maintenance is a snap.
i think the screws are 10mm...atleast i think thats what i used when i tried to run DRL's on my 96...ha i wanted the bright amber look that i see on newer Zs and corvettes but i couldn't break anymore relays..ha $4-5 a piece...and i broke like 3 or 4...and gave up...
