How to get the A4 shifter **** off?

I know there's a little tab on the front side that I thought you push in. I can't get the tab to move. I would have to put a clamp on it and end up marring up the ****.

ok, here we go now! Turn your ignition key foreward without turning it on. Pull up the hand brake, pull your shifter all the way back(1st or 2nd gear), get a flat head screw driver and pry that huge *** staple out. Then wiggle it back and forth to take it off.

IT COMES OFF!!!!

As said, remove the staple in the front and it will come off.
