How fast would a cracked head/blwn heag gasket leak presure out?I held 17lb for 10min

I had a guy presurize my cooling system, and he pumped it up to 18lbs, but around 10-15mins later it had dropped to 17 but didnt move from there. He said that he didnt think it could be either head gasket nor cracked head since it was holding presure. He also stated that the loss in that one pound was normal.

He suggested that I pull the radiator and have him flush it out completly with some fancy machine he's got.

Just FYI, the problem I have had with my car is that it will run fine (180 degrees, I have a 180 stat and fans are constantly on), but when I stop the car will start getting hot unless I keep moving, and If I stay stopped too long it will eventually over heat.

NEEEEEEEEEEEEED HELP!

It does not sound like you have a problem with your heads. If it cools down when the car moves, and get hot when stoppped, it probably means your fans are not turning.

Got the fans turned on all the time to rule that out.

Do you have enough voltage? I was overheating once because I was only getting 11 volts on my alternator and the fan wasn't spinning fast enough.

a friend of mine had the same problem you have. his was the drive shaft that runs in the back of the water pump, all the grooves were rounded out. maybe that will help you out.

so what ended up happenin to your car?My car seems to be having the same problem, i go on the freeway and temps are nice and low but once it idles for a long while,it boils over, what gives??(BTW changed Tstat, and rad cap and fans turn on at 2XX degrees) any ideas??Im thinkin if it was clogged radiator it would over heat on the freeway as well due to lack of flow.?!

What coolant ratio do you run? too hot w/ too much water in the mix can cause it to boil a bit sooner...even if its pressurised.

actually coolant has a lower boiling temp than water.Coolant basically prevents the water from freezing. With that being said, the mixture i have is somewhere around 50/50. Any ideas on whats wrong with my car???
