How fast is this car??

Im looking at a 95' Pontiac Firebird. The car has a brand new LT1 Crate engine that isnt even broken in. It has the alumn. heads, bored .30 over, and pacesetter headers. What are you guys thinking for a 1/4 time?

That's not enough information. So it's a 355 crate motor or did they also increase the stroke? What kind of parts are they using? Compression ratio? What does it have in the valvetrain? What are the specs on the heads? What kind of cam? Etc. Etc.

What kind of transmission? Any suspension upgrades? Weight reduction? Sticky tires?

Times: 14.0 and below.

Not sure. I just seen it in the classifieds and was thinking about picking it up. I sent the guy a few text. It has a stock cam and stock almn. heads. It is an auto with 2.73's he believes. It's bored .30 over with forged pistons.

Well assuming it's a 355 then with nothing else but forged pistons, without changing anything over from stock or bumping up the compression ratio or lowering it for boost.... with just headers and no other mods. Assuming they are decent headers.

I guess 13.7 @ 103 somwhere in there... though dropping in that kind of crate motor would be going through an awful lot of work and money for no gains.

There has to be more to it.

i bought my 95 formula with an a4 and 2:73 rear, bone stock. it went 14.30 @ 97 at milan dragway. it depends on the exhaust system after the headers but, i would guess mid to high 13's, with no wheel spin. add some 3:73 gears and drag radials and it should help a ton.

It just sounds like a stock rebuild, I'm sure it is still going to be a high 13 second car.

Yeah there is nothing really to tell from that add I really don't know who would go with a stock rebuild and then call it fast I mean if they wanted it fast how about atleast a cam swap

I've noticed that alot, people get a factory rebuild, they get it slightly overbored and they get an extra 5 cubic inches and think the motor is the fastest thing on the block.

True, but not on your block, or mine!

First off, how does he know it runs great and is fast if it isn't even broken in yet. Second, what did he do that caused him to rebuild the motor? Third, just by reading the add he seems like he doesn't know that much about the rebuild.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but every experience I have had with a bought rebuild has been no bueno. Recently a friend bought a built LS1 T/A with heads and a cam, he has put more money into it in the last few months than I have in the past year on my car. Everything was needing replace and still his tranny is acting up and his car still isn't running right.

Unless a reputable shop did the rebuild and you can talk to someone there I would be a little hesitant of buying it. Just my .02.

Sounds like an LT1 that crapped out on the guy from a bottom end failure... He probably got tired of the car and wants to sell it. So you have an unkown engine block with 6 miles on it... who knows if it was built properly or not. I would pass on it unless he wanted $1,200 for the car. Plus this guy is playing dumb and knows nothing about the car.
