By "crate engine" do you mean it came out of a "crate" aka jalopy? OR....by crate do you mean a new or rebuilt long block. I frankly doubt that anyone would actually buy an LT1 crate engine, since it would be less expensive to buy a short block and build it out with the remnants of your current engine, plus any mods, e.g. cam, heads, etc.

It's basically a matter of Caveat Emptor----unless you get the paperwork, a guarantee that you can depend on and a damn good deal, my advise would be to pass.JMHO
