I was going to put my crank hub back on the new motor and it will only slide on about 1/2 inch before it starts to hang up. Does that sound about right?

Yes, its a press fit. You usually barely need to put it on before it starts getting "hung". Trust me.. I've lost 2 now

I use all thread to install the hub on the crank. thread it in put a 13/16th 1/2" drive socket inside the crank hub and a nut you will have to keep the crank from turnning. I put a screw driver between the flywheel and starter... crank it down untill it is in the same place as before, you will see the clean line.
