How does the power programmer increase performance?
Re: How does the power programmer increase performance?
There are MUCH MUCH better options than the Hypertech and most cost LESS and do MORE. Hypertech is like a one size fits all hat with a couple color choices, whereas for under $100 you can get true custom tuning(think tailored tux) with lifetime free updates should you mod the car further and it can adjust a great deal more.
The way the Hypertech is supposed to make more power(some b-bodies which are LT1 as well have dynoed losses) is by playing with the timing and fuel curves.
I have to say it again though, do not mess with this thing just get custom tuning madz28.com is very highly recommended and is in IL, pcmforless.com is also exelent but is in PA, there are lots of other choices as well these two are just very popular and very reasonably priced. While some say you get what you pay for that is not the case with these two, yes they are cheap but the service and results are as good as some tuners charging as much as 5 times more for a one time tune vs. the updatable stuff they sell.
For the cost of a new Hypertech you could get a cable which allows tuning and datalogging, tuning from one of the above, and Tunercat which will let you modify the programming and still have money leftover.
Hypertech, Granatelli and the like are for those who have not found a forum like this and learned the right way to modify a computer controled car.

Re: How does the power programmer increase performance?
Okay, thats kinda what I was thinking, but what can PCMFORLESS and madwolf tuning do for my car? I figured only a car with an aftermarket cam would need new tuning.
Re: How does the power programmer increase performance?
Had a hyper and a jet stage 2 in my lightly moded 97 Z and I went with a madwolf tune and i'm still smiling!!!! The other 2 are a waste of money and regardless what youv'e done or plan to do this is the only way to fly! Plus he supports the site!!!!!
