how does the hotcam perform with stock exhaust manifolds?
#2
I don't have any experience w/ the stock manifolds, but I would venture to guess poorly. The hot cam doesn't really start to make power till the upper rpm band, then it just winds out like there is no tomorrow, so higher revs means more flow... my .02
In my truck it has plenty of low end grunt, but once you cross the 3k rpm line, it's nasty, almost like a turbo boost kicking in.

I have a friend that has the hot cam in his M6 97Z28 with stock exhaust manifolds, Borla cat back and dual cats with 4.11 gears and Ed wright programming. He can run 13.1 all day long with a few 13.0 runs at 108MPH and a few runs he hit 109MPH. But I am sure with a set of Longtubes and no cats he should be somewhere in the mid 12s or so
Hope that helps,
Claude

Just curious my man....are you considering it or just asking? The reason I ask is that you should go with headers before a cam install IMO. Either that or just hold onto the cam if you have it until you can afford headers. I would think the stock exhaust will choke it a lil. Of course it will be better but you wont get the max output from it.

and sjs is correct, you need to get the car breathing right before you go internal. it can be done, but you will not be as satisfied w/ your results.
I got a video of my truck idling, one of it doing a line lock, etc etc. You can email me if you want to hear what it sounds like. I have 1 5/8 shorty headers, custom 2.5" y-pipe, 3" catgo converter, two chamber flowmaster w/ dual 2.5" out.
