How do you tighten a loose pulley?

Car was making a small noise, somebody suggested that the pulley was loose. So, what do i do to check it out?

I have doubts of a loose pulley but one near failure or belt at end of life is more likely. What I would do is find the tensioner and use ratchet with correct size socket and relieve the pressure off the belt and take it out and examine it for wear or any cracking. I would spin and feel for any excessive play in the pulleys and look for any flatspotting on pulley surface. If belt looks good and no play and the pulleys that should spin freely dont exhibit wobble or play or noise(while spinning by hand) then the noise is probably elsewere. It is worth a check as a belt letting loose can cause some hefty damage in a hurry. Also look for a decent visual alignment of belt and anything funny looking at an idle. Also look for excess wear at edge of belt or any pully.

on belt inspection if you are not familiar with that look at top and underside with a tight bend or loop as that will expose cracking that may not be seen with it flat. Look for any worn spots as well as cracking. Some wear spots will be melted or obvious alot of heat was built up there. If there are wear spots or cracking replace it.

cracking in the belt is just time to replace it but wear in the belt usually points to a pulley alignment problem or a pulley ready to fail or has failed

This is my experience with a cracking pulley ...shredded the belt and ripped off all sensors on the front of the engine ..... don't let this happen to you!!
