How do you remove the oil pump shaft??

I got a new hardened oil pump shaft for my rebuild and I am not sure how to remove the shaft off of the gear??

So basically How do you seperate the gear from the shaft??

Thanks
John

I'm a little confused. The gear that runs against the cam shaft is on the short shaft that drops in from the top under the intake manifold. This gear is not replaceable, you have to replace the whole short shaft. The other shaft that fits into the end of the short shaft and mates to the oil pump doesn't have a gear on it.

That is if you're talking about an LT1 with reverse cooling.

I am trying to seperate the shaft, the long shaft with the plastic sleeve on it, from the oil pump gear that sits in the housing. How does it come apart??

Thanks
John

It just pulls straight up, nothing holding it in there.
