How do you know when your lifters are not working properly?

I was adjusting my valves last night with the car running and I noticed that it wasn't just shooting oil out on my headers. I mean there was oil in the head but it wasn't just getting everywhere like it use to. My question is I have developed a tick in the valve train somewhere that I'm trying to track down. Is there suppose to be oil blowing out of these rocker arms? I don't know if it's due to poor lubrication or what. Now that I think about it I don't even remember the 1.6rr having holes in them on the side that the pushrod rides in.

I noticed in your sig that you have Comp R lifters, that fact alone makes me think you might have lifter problems...Along with the symptoms you decribed above would be reason enough to dig in and replace them with either stock replacements (not comp Rs) or some Morels.

I believe RR's have a different oil path from the stock rockers that reduces oil spray as the needle bearings have reduced oil needs.
